  1. Just read the No More School Fees article... As a teacher who has worked in both the public and private systems, I take great offense to the idea that people are leaving public school b/c of the quality of education. There is good and bad in both. As for paying more fees in public school - back in the day when people paid nothing but their taxes at school - the technology and methods that are here today were nowhere to be found - thus no fees. In order for schools/gov't to keep up - taxes must go up and/or there are fees. Secondly, let's talk declining enrollment in public schools. Can you say declining birth rate?

For those of you who are crying the blues for having to pay fees and then turn around to put your children in private schools, you get none of my sympathy. As for those of you who can't afford fees, we all know there are measures in place to help. The first place to ask is at your school.
And finally, for those of you who are daunted by the fees you are paying out for activities, perhaps you need to re-assess and spend some of your own time with your children and do the "art" lessons at home. Really reflect on why you have your children so involved? Are you passing the buck? Competing? Keeping up? Thinking that Harvard is waiting for your child b/c they have taken an art class age 5? Let's take some responsibility, prioritize, and if we need to take on the load a bit and help make things equitable in our eduation system - let's do it.
